Kindergarten: Week 5

Last week was a really good week for Madyn. He had blues almost every day. He was focused, and on task. Not too hyper, and was a very good listener.

Madyn had his first school picture day too! He wore a brown plaid shirt with brown shorts that Grandma Debbie got him. He allowed me to spike his hair and he looked so handsome! He was ready to smile too! I'm so anxious to get the pictures & CD back!

Last week we also had our first appointment for Madyn. He has officially been diagnosed with ADHD. However, we have to wait on a psych eval to get any sort of medicine or anything. We do get to see a therapist for him though and I'm hoping that seeing a therapist will help him calm down a little bit.

Madyn continues to LOVE school and is still sad on weekends when he has to stay home. I am very thankful that he likes school!

Kindergarten: Fourth Week!

SO Madyn has successfully completed ONE month of school! I'm SO very proud of him. He wakes up every morning with a smile and looks forward to going to school. It's been a roller coaster of a month and he's still figuring out the rules, but I think with time I'll have one very well behaved little boy. (fingers crossed!) ;). By now we've established a school day routine and a weekend routine and he knows them by heart. I wake up at around 6, and he gets up shortly after me (6:15-6:30ish) and then it's shower time, breakfast, brush teeth, spend some quality time together and then start the walk to school. Weekends he likes to stay in his pajamas as late as he can. My boy LOVES his jammies just like his momma!

Last week was more down then up, though he did have one good day thrown in the mix. The rest of the days were just lots of movement, talking and trying to be in charge. He just doesn't understand why he has to listen to the teacher, or why he has to sit still so much. Madyn has NEVER liked to be still. Not even when he was an infant. So this whole sitting still business isn't working for him yet.

This week is off to a pretty good start, and as usual I'll catch you guys up on this week next week! :D

Hope you all have a good short week!

Kindergarten: Third Week

We started the week off really good and ended this week on a bad note. A note so bad that I called a behavioral health facility to finally have him tested for adhd/add. Friday he was running around the classroom with the yardstick using it as a lance, stole other kids snacks, pushed a kid on the playground, threw wood chips on the playground, would NOT sit still for one second and he ended up getting kicked out of the classroom that day. This is NOT the kind of behavior I see at home and I really am at a loss for WHY he's acting like this at school. So he does have an appointment to be tested for behavior problems next Thursday!

Last week was spirt week and we had so much fun dressing up for each day. Here are some pictures from last week :)

(Lazy Monday- Wear your Jammies-Madyn's Jammies were star wars legos. He LOVES that game!)

(Tuesday- Topsy Turvy day; Wear mismatched clothes!)

(Color War Wednesday- Kindergarten got to wear BLUE!)

(Crazy Head Thursday- we messed up Madyn's Hair!)

(side/back of messed hair!)

(Falcon Friday- Wear school gear/colors [we don't have any falcons shirts so he wore a gray/black baseball shirt!) :)

(pouty face)

Here are some miscellaneous ones that I took each day. Enjoy!

He got hurt on the playground on Wednesday! Below is the picture of my lil bruiser!

So yes, we're hoping to have a better week this week! We shall see!!

Kindergarten: Second Week

So we've now got two weeks worth of school under our belt. Madyn started week three today and we'll report on this week next Monday!

Last week went pretty well. I'm sure we could've done better, but I'm pretty proud of the progress and growth I'm seeing! Madyn started the week out on a red. He was just very talkative! Tuesday he was absent because he woke up sick! Wednesday was back to school and he had a yellow day that day, However when he returned to school on Thursday he had his first BLUE day! He finished the week out on an orange! Yay! I think he's starting to understand how he's SUPPOSED to behave at school, but we'll see what this week brings.

They [his school] does tests at the beginning, middle and end of the school year. When Madyn was tested he identified 23/30 letter sounds! Yay! When they mixed up the letters, both uppercase and lowercase and had him pick out the ones he knows, he correctly identified 30/51! Not too bad in my opinion! :) I'm happy! I think he's very smart!

He's starting to identify other children as his "friends." He sits next to a girl who's a red head and he seems to play with her at lunch, but there's another lil guy that he plays with too. Its so cute and exciting that he's making friends now.

He still doesn't get why he doesn't go to school on Saturdays and Sundays and says "my friends are going to be sad that I'm not there with them." We have explained that he doesn't go to school  on the weekends, just like daddy doesn't go to work on the weekends.

This week is school spirit week! I am hoping that he has fun with this! Today is pajama day! He's got his new star wars lego pajama's on and he loves them!

Kindergarten: First week :)

We have one week of school under our belts and are on our second week starting today!

Last week started out with Madyn's first day of school. He got there a little before 8 o'clock am.  When we pulled into the parking lot Madyn immediately said "bye mom" as if we were just going to drop him off and let him go by himself!! We got out of the truck and walked him to his classroom, he was instructed to put his backpack on a carpet that has shapes and colors around the border. He then immediately went and played. Brandon and I talked to the teacher briefly and then gave Madyn kisses and hugs and wished him good luck! That day when we picked him up from school he came up to us with a pouty face and said "I had a bad day, I got a yellow". Well at this point we didn't know what "yellow" meant and assumed it was just a warning. We made sure to get the teacher's attention to let her know we were there to pick Madyn up. When she noted us picking him up she said "oh he had a bad day too." Which means he wasn't the only one that had a bad day thankfully. She told us he was wrestling kids to the ground and yelling/screaming in the halls! While this behavior doesn't surprise me it does sadden me! I was hoping he'd have a great day and be a great student. When we got home, we talked to Madyn and told him that behavior was NOT acceptable.

Tuesday was the first day I was to walk Madyn to school. He did great and didn't complain or anything. We got there before 8 o'clock. It took us 31 minutes to walk there the first day. As on Monday we headed in through the office, but was told that to better direct traffic flow and prevent clogging up the office we needed to wait outside by the library until the 8 o'clock bell rang. So out we walked to be by the office. We waited against the wall, I reiterated that the behavior he exhibited on Monday was not acceptable and that he had to have a better day! That day he had an Orange! The scale that they use for behavior is as follows: They start out on Orange, they can either go up or they can go down. Going up they can earn a blue, or a purple or going down they can earn a red or a yellow. We cheered for Madyn and rewarded him with a little lego set! We were so happy to hear he had a great day!

Wednesday he came home from school with an Orange as well! I was a very happy mommy to see he had two oranges in a row! I thought maybe he had started to understand how school works and the rules, but thursday was a different story. He came home with a red on Thursday! Thursday the teacher said he was just disregarding her teaching and talking to other children while she was talking. When she asked him to stop he started crying very loudly (this is usually his "sleepy" cry). Friday was the same as Thursday. When he got home Thursday we grounded his TV & Video game privileges until he can exhibit better behavior at school. Trying to nip this behavior before he gets in bigger grades and it becomes worse!

So today he started fresh for a new week! We again reinforced the kind of behavior that IS acceptable and are holding our breaths and crossing all things crossable that he has a great day!

I'll continue to blog about Kindergarten as the year continues! come back :)

"Replace fear of the unknown with Curiousity"

Such an awesome quote. I swear this was written for me to see! I have such a great fear of the unknown it bothers me sometimes. Especially when it comes to being a mom of a kindergartener. I know I keep talking about it, and if you're reading again you're probably sighing  (I'm sorry!). I haven't been in this situation before so I am scared! Once August 8th comes and goes I'm sure I'll be fine! I mean millions of moms/parents experience this every year and they survive right? That means I will too.

I'm curious as to what he'll learn this year. I'm curious about what kind of other kids he'll be drawn to. Will he focus on school versus making friends? Will he be shy when he's surrounded by all the kids in his class? What will be his favorite subject?

SO many questions! I can't WAIT til next week gets here!

This week will be pretty exciting too! Thursday we have meet the teacher night! Saturday is our house warming party! All the other days I'll be cleaning and organizing and making sure everything has a place so that when Saturday gets here it looks perfect!

Hope everyone else had a great weekend and here's to another fantastic week! :)

Thoughts about Madyn and school

Time with Madyn that is! He starts school in two weeks! After that life will never be the same again! This is crazy stuff. I will be officially a mom to a kindergartener. To a student! Sheesh. This makes me feel old all of a sudden. I know I'm far from it, but none of my friends have children in kindergarten! lol. Madyn will be in the class of 2024, so long as he keeps up with school and is a good student! ;)

I have a feeling that in school Madyn will be good at math and really athletic. I base these thoughts off the fact that he is always running everywhere he can. He'll get down from dinner and run through the living room/family room area at full speed! His favorite kinect game right now is "kinect sports!" His favorite sport is tied between Boxing and volleyball, although the soccer does take a close 2nd/3rd place. On the math portion of things. . . Madyn has been asking me for weeks mathmatic questions. "Mom, what does 3 plus 3 equal?" "Mom half of 5 is 3!" I mean he's ALWAYS asking or trying to figure things like that out! I hope that I am doing a good job of encouraging him to keep trying to figure out these simple mathmatic questions so that he does stay interested in math! Math was NEVER [still is not] my strong point!

Tonight we hung up a calendar similar to ones that teachers have in their classrooms. With the big numbers! We also hung a chart that will help to teach him the days of the week and the "today, tomorrow & Yesterday" parts of speech. He's started to get it without this, so hopefully he'll understand by the time school starts what "today, tomorrow and yesterday" means.

All in all kindergarten is going to be a great experience for both Madyn and myself! Hopefully, we'll survive the first year of school together! ;)

Oh July....

You start out with a bang with the fourth of July. Then next thing I know it's Madyn's birthday, and now its the week my grandpa died 5 years ago. He would've been 76 this year! He was such a big part of my life, and when he passed away, it was the first funeral I went to. It hurt so deeply. I still miss him very much. I wish all the time he could see my son, and be a part of his life. He was such an awesome man. I am very fortunate he got to see him and hold him before he passed away for at least a minute, and I do have some pictures of them together, but Madyn will never know him. I'll just have to pass down the wisdom he passed on to me. I know that he's up there looking down on us, and in a way I know he sees Madyn and us living our lives, its just hard to remember that all the time.

July is such a weird month. This July is specifically more weird to me than any of the past years. It's the last month I have exclusively we have with Madyn. Next month he'll start school and we'll be parents of a kindergartener! I'm so excited for all of the things he's going to learn, and to seeing how he's going change! I know I keep repeating myself and for that I'm sorry!

The month "anniversary" of us living in our house has come and gone. It's still such a nice feeling knowing we don't have to move anytime soon! The house is still very much amazing. I'm very thankful that we were able to find such a wonderful place to plant our family! It definitely is a lot more work than any residence I've ever lived in before, but it is so worth it and I actually enjoy the housework, minus the bathrooms! hah.

Anywhos, hope you all are doing well!

Aint a whole lot of babble going down in this bubble huh?

Life got away from me again! I'm busy trying to enjoy my "baby" before he runs off to the scary world! Yikes!

Well this morning after my morning workout I was reading my blogs and found this "quiz" it takes all of TWO seconds! (Quiz here) Well I'm a squiggle. I won't post too much about it because I don't want to sway you. But definitely let me know what you "are"!

Today is a day of laundry and some cleaning as usual! A moms work never ends!

Dear Madyn

Dear Madyn,

You're five years old now. That's half a decade!!! You're so big! As of your birthday you were 42 inches tall and 44.2 lbs! You've got blonde hair that seems to be darkening every time I look at you. Your eyes are the most gorgeous mix between green and brown that I've ever seen. When you wake up every morning you either enjoy a breakfast of cereal, or scrambled eggs. When we have pop tarts stocked on the shelf, you choose those! Your favorite fruit is a banana. You don't like mommy's favorite fruit of strawberries. Your favorite veggie is still broccoli although corn has a close second place. No day is the same with you.

Your favorite things to do right now besides run around and be silly to make everyone laugh are: Playing the kinect, playing any of the lego games, playing any of the many board games we have[favorites seem to be monopoly jr, scrabble jr, or don't break the ice!]. You enjoy coloring, and finally have started to understand how to color within the lines. When we're cooking you always are sure to ask if there's any way to help. I sometimes wonder if you will be a chef when you "grow up."

Being five means you're going to start Kindergarten this year. I am so excited for you to start, because I know that you're going to thrive in a structured environment. You crave others attention, and when you're at school you'll definitely have plenty of attention, I just hope that you do not distract others! ;)

Your bedtime right now is 8:00, and you usually wake up around 6 or 7 o'clock in the morning. Way earlier then Mommy is used to right now, but you are revved and ready to go!

Madyn, you are such a joy to me and your daddy. We love you so much and can't wait to see what the next 5 years bring!

Happy fifth birthday big guy!

Love you,

Everything changes...

I gave my two week notice last weekend. Well, I told my boss over the phone and have to bring it in writing to my shift on Saturday. It most likely will be my last shift with the company. This honestly has been my best job I've ever had. I love my job with every fiber of my being. I have so many customers that have come to the studio and fallen in love with my style of photography or liked how I bonded with their children etc. I am sad that I have to leave them. I hope that I will run into them again in life somewhere/somehow. I have a few that their children are still infants and I was REALLY looking forward to shooting their first birthday pictures. I usually am okay with change, but this change I'm not happy with. I find myself wishing quite frequently I could've saved my money starting way back when I got my first job in 2005, because who knows I probably could've had my own car a long time ago. Oh well. I'm hoping I can stay in contact with my team and that I could maybe go back in the future even for just a weekend a month or something.

The house is still amazing as ever. We got our couches delievered for the family room earlier in the week. They help complete the room so well. I can't wait until we have our entertainment center built! Brandon plans on building this for the family room as he's quite handy with tools and has already been planning this for a while. We also still have to decorate our bathrooms, madyn's room and our room. Compared to our "Master Bedroom" at the apartment we just moved from this room is huge. Our room looks SO "naked"  I can't wait to decorate and fill our house with knick-knacks & treasures. :)

Wednesday I went and picked up the enrollment paperwork to start registering Madyn for Kindergarten!! There wasn't NEAR as much as I had thought there would be. I had it finished in around 10 minutes flat. We have to get a proof of residency form notarized and then I get to turn in the paperwork and then they'll get him assigned to a classroom! I still can't believe this is real. I'm unofficially the mom to a kindergartener! I'm "not" old enough! I'm ONLY 22. I feel like I should still have a few more years with this little person. I'm SO scared for him to start school. I feel like once he starts he's going to change completely. I would *love* if a couple parts of him would change, but his sweetness, and his thoughtfulness and his general personality is just amazing. I don't want our big, bad & scary world to change him. He's perfect just the way he is. I don't usually have a problem sharing, but when it comes to sharing my son, I'm suddenly finding myself feeling selfish. :( Has anyone else felt like this? Am I weird for not wanting to let him go? I feel like once he starts it's "all downhill" from there. I know that there is going to be a LOT of fun things that come with him starting Kindergarten! I can't wait to see and hear what he learns each day. I am excited too. Just nervous is all.

I also am hoping that if everything goes well with me finding a new job and madyn's first "semester" of kindergarten that I will be able to start taking some classes in January! I need to get on that. I want to have a career and not just "jobs." I'm not quite sure what career path I want to take yet though. I do know that I plan on continuing to photograph and not just my son. I'm hoping to start freelance photography in the very near future.

As for tonight I'm just up relaxing and watching tv. If you read, please leave me a comment.

Home Sweet Home

We did it! Finally! We're moved into the house. It's a BEAUTIFUL home and it feels like I'm living a dream. I don't know if I've mentioned the details yet, if I have bare with me. :)

The house is 2,078 sq feet. 3 bedrooms 2.5 bath and a loft! It's got an amazing kitchen. We love everything about it. We're still working on unpacking things and getting things organized considering we just moved in monday! :).

I go back to work saturday! Kinda not looking forward to it because I have to leave early to get there. ugh. Excited about being there yes!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Good News

We got the email for the final loan approval and everything is set to go for tomorrow. Brandon will be closing on the house at 8 am!!

We're hoping to get the keys by tomorrow at 5!

I had great intentions. I was going to photograph a different part of my life every day. I was going to edit a photo and I was going to post those photograph's on this blog to document this year of my life. Probably the year that is the most exciting year next to 2006. However, with life being as busy as it has been I haven't been able to follow through. Days fly by too fast. My son is growing up every minute to be such an amazing boy and hopefully he'll grow into an even more amazing man.

I'm enjoying my life right now. I think that is why I haven't followed through on the project 365. I'm too busy enjoying the moments that I *should* have photographed to actually photograph something.

Of course I'm still taking pictures, but I'm not forcing myself to take pictures every day. I'm not going to force myself to post them either.

So, from now on I'll be back to blogging about my life. I hope that you'll read my posts and that I'm able to write more frequently than I had before.

It's a girl!!!! :D

My sister future brother in law & my niece all surprised us and showed up! It was SO great to be able to see them!

Words can't describe how much I love my sister. We don't get to see each other near as often as we'd like because of the distance and transportation, but it was refreshing to see her.

Pretty much the only picture of the whole easter basket I got with Madyn Sunday morning.

We had a very nice Easter. Madyn was overly exhausted by the end of it due to no nap but he was such a joy to be around the rest of the day.

My wonderful honey made Easter cupcakes with my baby boy on saturday while I was at work! They came out amazing as usual!
